This vintage Russian nevalyashka doll is hand painted with an extraordinarily detailed folk-art scene wrapping around the entire body. A serene blue-eyed figure is surrounded by a miniature landscape of cottages, birds, flowers, butterflies, water and figures in traditional dress, while the reverse is covered in an elaborate turquoise floral pattern.
Unlike a traditional nesting doll, this is a weighted roly-poly chime doll. Give her a gentle push and she rocks from side to side before righting herself, producing a soft musical chime from inside as she moves.
Finished in glossy lacquer and retaining its original Made in Russia label, with a Cyrillic artist’s signature on the underside.
