A very large bird with a surprisingly useful beak.

This vintage California pottery pitcher is sculpted in the form of a cockatoo, complete with a dramatic crest, textured feathers, and a branch-like handle. Finished in a warm ivory crackle glaze, the monochromatic palette lets every wonderfully strange detail do the talking.

Marked “California” and “355” on the underside. Use it as a pitcher, fill it with trailing greenery or flowers, or display it empty as the sculptural ceramic bird it was clearly destined to become.
