Antique 1879 “New Shells from Peru” Natural History Lithograph, Framed
A little scientific history, dressed for the gallery wall.
Dated 1879 and titled “New Shells from Peru,” this antique natural history plate features six meticulously illustrated shells in muted blue, charcoal, cream, and sepia tones. The print is attributed to G.B. Sowerby and appears to originate from the Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London.
Layered linework matting and a carved warm-brown wood frame give the piece a beautifully collected, old-library quality. Perfect for a study, bathroom, bedroom, or anywhere that could use a coastal reference without becoming aggressively nautical.
