Straight from Rhodes, with a deer who clearly understands the assignment.
This vintage Dakas Rodos wall pocket was handmade and hand-painted in Rhodes, Greece, and features the studio’s wonderfully distinctive stylized deer motif surrounded by raised dots, leaves and bold geometric decoration.
The rounded, amphora-inspired shape is finished in a warm sandy tan with black, white and turquoise accents, giving it that unmistakable Mediterranean folk-art feel. A sculptural white deer stretches across the front, surrounded by dimensional decoration that gives the piece plenty to look at even before you add flowers.
Designed to hang directly on the wall, the open top can hold fresh flowers, dried stems or greenery. It’s equally good left empty as a small piece of ceramic art.
The reverse is hand-signed “Dakas Rodos,” identifying the piece as work from the Dakas pottery studio on the Greek island of Rhodes.
