Vintage New Mexico Papier-Mâché Folk Art Woman Figurine
She has the outfit, the hat, and the expression of someone who will not be taking questions.
This vintage Southwestern folk-art figure depicts a woman dressed in a wide-brimmed orange hat, patterned shawl, and full ochre skirt. Her rosy cheeks, enormous lashes, long sculpted braid, and hand-painted floral details give her an abundance of personality from every angle.
Formed and painted by hand from papier-mâché, she has a lightweight, wonderfully imperfect construction typical of traditional folk craft. The underside is hand-marked “Nuevo Mexico.”
This piece shows considerable age and wear, including cracking, crazing, paint loss, abrasions, edge losses, and deterioration around the underside and hat brim. She remains stable for display, and her imperfections have been factored into the price. Please review all photos closely.
